Vilkaviškis Municipal Public Library was founded in 1978.
Library aims and objectives: to collect, preserve and create opportunities for individuals to learn the written, audio and visual cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on the cultural district of the population and information needs, and contribute to information and knowledge society, regional development, to introduce democracy, intellectual freedom, freedom of information, culture of openness and respect for intellectual property assets.
Library functions: to form a universal pool of documents conforming to Vilkaviškis historical traditions, economic and cultural development, demographic situation, the needs of the population, to collect local history documents as well as information about the documents related to the history of the district, to organize their searches and acquisitions, to develop local history work, providing our customers with bibliographic information services, to facilitate access to the Internet.
Network: the network of libraries consists of the public library, two city libraries and 29 rural branches.
Fund: the fund comprises 293309 phys. pc. documents. The public library - more than 50316 phys. pcs.
Users: The library provides services to 45359 area residents. The Public Library has 2243 readers, city libraries - 1830, rural branches - 5111 readers of the district population.
